One of those, lightning-strikes moments. I had heard nothing but amazing things, and I agreed to meet up with a group of friends at this particular restaurant to see if the initial introduction would go as well for us as the comments that had preceded. Upon arrival, I knew. The smell, the look, the intrigue….How could it not be fate?

They had me at “Voted one of the best burgers in the DFW.” 

After that, I didn’t need any more convincing that the B&B Burger was “the one.”

Labor Day, 2016. I had 5 house guests that weekend and we were having a blast. We were all over the city, and on Sunday morning after a long evening of dinner, drinks, and Drag Shows, we were hoping to recover with brunch.

Barley & Board was an easy choice. I had gone before and feel in love with the food and the service. The previous meal had been dinner, so trying out their brunch seemed like the next step in our relationship.

The group decided on 2 mimosa flights. We ordered a flight of the traditional, and then a mixed flight that had Hibiscus, Strawberry Mint, Blood Orange and Prickly Pear. Two carafes later, we were the happiest group in the entire restaurant. We had made friends with all the waitress’s, the chef – who came out to meet us twice- and other customers, who literally stopped at our table to tell us how much they enjoyed us.

Collaboratively, we ordered the following:

The Old Faithful ($27) An 8 oz juicy Hanger Steak with sunny side up eggs and seasoned potatoes.

Flatbreads: 

Smoked Salmon – Delicious smoked salmon with boursin, arugula, shallot, capers, & drizzled with olive oil

Blackened Chicken & Andouille – Topped with Remoulade, mushroom, caramelized onion, & pepper jack

Farm to Bread – Meatless greatness with pecan Pesto, Zucchini, Tomato, Corn Relish, Pepitas, & Cilantro

My personal choice, the one that stole my heart, was the B & B Burger. It was an intense movie moment where I bit into this awesome thing and music started playing in the background. ( I Say a Little Prayer from My Best Friend’s Wedding) Overall, Barley and Board is a 5/5. If you are in Denton, Texas, it is my top suggestion.
